AU Invites Three Nobel Prize Laureates & Many Scholars!---

Following two Nobel Prize Laureates, Dr. Yuan-Tseh Lee and Dr. Ferod Murad and many famous scholars,

Professor Rose came to AU and gave a speech about how to pass accreditation of a college of management. He was impressed about the good environment for students’ learning at AU.Following two Nobel Prize Laureates, Dr. Yuan-Tseh Lee and Dr. Ferod Murad, and many famous scholars, a third Nobel Prize laureate, Dr. Oliver E. Williamson, comes to Asia University to give a speech and discuss cooperation.

Dr. Williamson, a Nobel Prize laureate in Economics 2009, will give his first speech in Asia at Asia University, Taiwan. In recent years, Asia University tries its best to internationalize and invites many world-class masters to give speeches and lectures. This attracts Dr. Williamson to come to AU.

Professor Horng-Jinh Chang, President of Asia University, said that having a face-to-face discussion with a Nobel Prize laureate can broaden students’ and professors’ international views. Actually, Dr. Williamson is the third Nobel Prize laureate giving a speech in AU in recent years. The one before Dr. Williamson is Dr. Ferod Murad who won a Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1998.

According to President Chang, Dr. Ferod Murad was invited as an honorary professor in AU last year. He has come to lead a research team in AU for three semesters. Both the students and professors in the team benefit a lot from him. President Chang believes that more people will benefit from the speech given by Dr. Williamson, because this speech is open to the public, not only for the students and professors in AU.

Another world-class master, Mr. Ando Tadao, visited AU several times. He designed the first building of his in Taiwan, the Art Center of AU. He gave speeches and had discussions with students. All students and professors were impressed and inspired by his storied life.

On the other hand, Professor Yu-Tung Liu, a vice president of Asia University, said that the International College at AU will start to recruit international students next semester. He also pointed out that Professor Jeffrey Tsai, the first former president, will come back to Taiwan and lead a research team in AU. The team will have a video conference with another team led by Professor Jean-Claude Latombe in Stanford University every Wednesday. Generally speaking, the research teams focus on 3D media technology in medical applications. Last week, Professor Jean-Claude Latombe visited AU in person and had a face-to-face discussion with the research team in AU.

Besides, Professor Miles Pennington in the Royal College of Art was invited to be a guest professor in AU to teach students in the College of Creative Design. Professor Rong-Ming Wu, the former vice superintendent of the Examination Yuan of R.O.C, said that AU is internationalizing in a very fast speed. That’s why AU could be a rising star among the new colleges and universities in Taiwan.
