AU Enters MOE-supported 2020 National Teaching Practice Research Program---

31 Asia University professors are granted projects of the program with an approval rate of 49.2% being ranked No. 4 in Taiwan.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced the list of projects of 2020 National Teaching Practice Research Program. The performance of Asia University (AU) is higher than last year with 31 professors being granted such projects this year, the approval rate is 49.2%, and the achievement is ranked No. 4 in Taiwan.

 

The professors of AU are enthusiastic about applying for projects of the program, and the number of approved ones by the program has increased from 13 in 2018, 28 in 2019, to 31 this year. The performance shows AU's teachers’ focusing on teaching innovation, improving teaching quality, and promoting the effectiveness of students learning. They combine research designs and methods to carry out innovative teaching, which are favored by the reviewers of the MOE.

 

The President of AU, Jing-Pha Tsai, said that AU emphasizes teaching quality and encourages innovative teaching. The projects of the program have been carried out seriously and the results are outstanding. This shows that AU’s teachers are putting efforts into teaching very hard, creating abundant energy of teaching and research innovation.

Huei-Chen Ko, the Vice President and the Director of the Teaching Resources and Faculty Development Center (TRFDC) of AU, said that the TRFDC will continue, via regular teacher community meetings, to maintain the enthusiasm of the teachers in pursuing teaching excellence. In the meantime, the center will continue to hold various lectures on effectiveness analysis of teaching and learning to improve AU’s teachers’ energy of teaching practices. In addition, a platform will be provided for publications of the research results of cross-school teachers and exchanges of experiences between them.

The National Teaching Practice Research Program has been promoted by the MOE since 2017 to encourage teachers to ask questions from educational sites; to discuss curriculum designs, teaching methods, teaching aids, and technology media of innovations; and to take appropriate research methods and tools to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching.

The Teaching Resources and Faculty Development Center of AU arranged several experience-sharing sessions for AU’s teachers to understand the writing and implementation of the projects of the Teaching Practice Research Program. In the figure is Shuo-Chang Tsai, a professor of the Department of Business Administration at AU, shared his application and implementation experience of teaching.

The Teaching Resources and Faculty Development Center of Asia University invited Professor Chun-Ju Huang, the principal investigator of the National Teaching Practice Research Program, to give a lecture on “the Current Status and Future of Teaching Practice Research Program.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

VP Ko emphasized that the MOE's Teaching Practice Research Program provides resources to teachers, which can effectively encourage teachers to explore the factors and methods to improve the quality of their own teaching and the effectiveness of student learning. As a result, the teachers can achieve professorship promotion in their career development. Furthermore, AU has combined the efforts of the Teaching Resources and Faculty Development Center, the R&D Office, the Personnel Office, and various departments of AU to support the teachers in applying for and implementing the projects of this program, including: (1) helping the teachers to gain bonus points in teacher evaluations and multiple ways of professorship promotion; (2) establishing a teacher community and multiple seminars for effectiveness  evaluation of teaching research and learning; and (3) holding writing experience sharing sessions.

The teachers of the Teaching Practice Research Club of Asia University invited Gwo-Jen Hwang (left), a Chair Professor of the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, to give a speech at Asia University.

The Teaching Resources and Faculty Development Center of Asia University invited Hao-Chiang Lin, a chair professor of the Department of Information and Learning Technology at the National University of Tainan, to share the design and results of his project of the National Teaching Practice Research Program from the perspective of the reviewer of the program.
