92% of Graduates of the Optometry Dept. at AU Passed the Optometrist Exam, much higher than the national average rate of 34%---

34 students of 37 who graduated from the Optometry Dept. at AU passed the national optometrist exam at a pass rate of 91.89%, fulfilling the AU’s goal of “Graduation Equals Employment.”

37 of the graduates of the 3rd class of the Department of Optometry at Asia University (AU) took the national optometrist exam, and 34 of the students passed the exam. The pass rate is 91.89%, much higher than the average rate 34% of the country. Currently, by academia-industry cooperation, the optical industry is seamlessly integrated with AU, so many of these well-qualified graduates of AU have been recruited by the industry, realizing the educational goal of “Graduation Equals Employment” set by AU.

Prof. Jung-Kai Tseng, Head of the Department of Optometry at AU, said that according to the law of Taiwan, optometrists have to pass the national optometrist exam to conduct the work of optometry for the public. Furthermore, the graduates from the department in the past three years took the national optometrist exam with pass rates of 86%, 88%, and 92%, respectively, exceeding the national average pass rate every year. It is a pleasure to see that three students of AU are among the top six participants with the best test scores, and that Yu-jia Liu (劉昱佳), one of the three, is the second best in the country. These facts show that the high-quality teaching and learning environment of the department is quite affirmed by the optical industry.

Department Head Tseng expressed great thanks to the teachers and students who set up an online system in this summer vacation during the Covid-19 pandemic prevention period for the students to review learned courseware before the exam, leading to a great success of the graduates in the exam and setting a record of the pass rate this year. In addition, the performances that the students made are stupendous to the optometry industry and academia circles in Taiwan.

Yu-jia Liu (劉昱佳), who, as mentioned above, passed the exam in the second place this year, said happily that although she has been studying diligently in the Department of Optometry for four years, she has lived a very fulfilling life every day. “In addition, the Department not only assists the students to pass the national exams, but also trains the students to obtain professionally practical ability,” said Liu, “and the head and teachers of the department spent holidays to lead the students to remote towns for practicing vision screening, letting the students have more professional knowledge and skills than students of other schools.” Liu expressed her great gratitude to the teachers for their hard teaching, so that she can successfully pass the optometrist exam and find a job.

During the studies of the students at the Department of Optometry at Asia University, the teachers always arrange vision screening and health education in both elementary and junior high schools of remote or rural areas.
