Partnering with Yumei Biotech to advance Taiwan’s international talent retention policy and strengthen industry–academia employment support and career development initiatives

In alignment with the Ministry of Education's "Program for Promoting International Students Staying and Working in Taiwan," which actively seeks to increase the retention rate of international graduates in the local workforce, Asia University is bridging the gap between academia and industry. To provide Taiwan's industries with a stable and diverse pool of international talent, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Asia University organized a corporate visit on May 28th. Students from the International Foundation Program (IFP) were led to Yumei Biotech Co., Ltd. (Agricultural Biotechnology Department) for an on-site visit and exchange.

The visited facility is located in Dadu District, Taichung City. Yumei Biotech's site encompasses three major production and R&D areas, with a long-standing commitment to agricultural technology, biotechnology research, and food safety. The company also actively promotes smart agriculture, the circular economy, and sustainable management. Through the guided site tour and professional sharing, international students gained an in-depth understanding of the current development and future talent demands of Taiwan's agricultural biotech industry.

During the event, the Sales Department, Human Resources Department, and on-site management team of Yumei Biotech provided a warm reception and detailed explanations. They offered students valuable, practical insights into the company's operational model, workplace culture, talent development system, and future career paths. Face-to-face interactions with corporate executives further clarified the expectations Taiwanese enterprises have for international talent and the employment opportunities available.

In addition, a special student networking session was arranged, during which HR specialists personally explained part-time work, internship, and future retention mechanisms. They also introduced the career development paths for international talent within the company. Students were highly engaged during the session, asking numerous questions and expressing strong interest in the work-study and internship opportunities. Several students proactively registered their interest, demonstrating a strong desire to stay and develop their careers in Taiwan. Prof. Chun-Wei Lin, Dean of International Affairs, stated that this visit is a key implementation of the OIA's initiatives to support international students' employment in Taiwan. By experiencing the corporate environment and workplace firsthand, students can better understand the systems and culture of Taiwanese enterprises. The students were deeply impressed by the clean, safe, and large-scale, high-quality working environment. The facility's proximity to Asia University and its convenient transportation further enhanced the students' trust and willingness to commit to future internships and employment there.

Director Yueh-Ying Wang of the Office of International Affairs, who organized the visit, noted that as Taiwan's industries become more internationalized and the demand for talent continues to rise, the university is actively promoting career counseling and employment support mechanisms for international students. In addition to organizing corporate visits, internship matching, resume health checks, and employment seminars, the university continues to deepen its cooperation with businesses. By establishing a "Study - Internship - Employment" one-stop counseling model, AU helps international students smoothly transition into the Taiwanese workplace after graduation. Through this corporate visit, students not only gained practical exposure to a Taiwanese enterprise's working environment but also recognized future internship and career development directions, giving them clearer goals and expectations for staying in Taiwan. Participating students reported gaining a wealth of knowledge, strengthening not only their understanding of Taiwan's industrial landscape but also their confidence and willingness to pursue employment in Taiwan.

Moving forward, the Office of International Affairs at Asia University will continue to integrate government policies with industry needs, deepening the cultivation of international talent and fostering industry-academia collaboration. By enhancing the employability of international students in Taiwan, AU aims to create an internationally friendly campus and a supportive environment for career development, helping more outstanding international talent to take root and thrive in Taiwan.
